The Role

Are you highly organised, discreet, and passionate about good governance? Do you enjoy working independently, thrive on attention to detail, and want to play a vital role in supporting leadership and accountability?

We are looking for a committed and proactive Clerk to the Board to provide high-quality governance and administrative support to the Board of Directors and its committees. This is a key role in ensuring the effective operation of our governance processes and maintaining statutory compliance.

Working closely with senior leaders and Board members, you will coordinate meetings, prepare and distribute documents, record accurate minutes (supported by AI transcription tools), and maintain essential governance records. You will play a vital role in supporting our quality assurance cycle and will be at the heart of how we ensure transparency, accountability, and impact.

What you will be doing:

  • Organising, attending and supporting all Board and committee meetings (approx. 30 annually, mostly remote during weekday evenings, with circa 7 on-site meetings).
  • Drafting accurate and reflective minutes using AI tools (where applicable), and tracking actions to completion.
  • Maintaining statutory governance records and ensuring compliance with company and education frameworks.
  • Ensuring governance documents are accessible, accurate and well-maintained.
  • Liaising regularly with the Chair of the Board, Committee Chairs, and senior leaders.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience in a governance, senior administration or compliance-focused role (ideally within education or regulated sectors).
  • Excellent organisational and written communication skills.
  • Confidence using Microsoft 365 (Word, Teams, Excel) and digital tools to manage records and meeting materials.
  • A flexible, calm and professional approach, with the ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
  • A strong sense of integrity, attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
  • Can prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Salary range is £11,087- £11,653 (actual including annual leave entitlement) depending on experience.  FTE £31,067 and £32,654

Part time hours: 2-3 days per week (15 hours) during school terms (39 weeks). We can offer flexibility around the 15 hours, provided that 15 hours are worked each week. This flexibility should also take into account attendance at regular board meetings. In addition, time off in lieu (TOIL) may be taken where appropriate, by prior agreement with your line manager.

Attendance at evening (remote) meetings is essential.

Please review the job description and person specification for further information about the role. If you're ready to make a difference in a rewarding environment, we encourage you to apply.

Safeguarding Information

We are committed to safeguarding and expect everyone who works in our school (and visitors to our school) to share this commitment. We take all safeguarding and welfare concerns seriously and encourage our pupils to talk to us about any worries they may have. We will always act in the best interests of the child.

To ensure that the Company meets its commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people it undertakes a number of pre-employment checks. The successful applicant must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS.

Regulated Activity - all positions in schools which amount to regulated activity with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (ROA).  Schools are therefore entitled to ask about and take into account spent convictions when making appointment decisions, other than those which have been designated as 'protected' under the DBS filtering rules. The Company applies for an enhanced disclosure from the DBS and a check of the Children's Barred List (now known as an Enhanced Check for Regulated Activity) in respect of all positions at the Company which amount to "regulated activity" as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (as amended).  The purpose of carrying out an Enhanced Check for Regulated Activity is to identify whether an applicant is barred from working with children by inclusion on the Children's Barred List and to obtain other relevant suitability information.
